BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 gets UK date

Need to refresh your BlackBerry? Well, if it can wait a couple of months, you can get your hands on the BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900.

The date for its UK launch, according to the Three network, is 15 September. The network will have a black version on offer on that day, with a white version of the smartphone landing a month later in October. That's the good news. The bad news is that Three isn't offering up a price as yet, perhaps because the market can change in a couple of months, or perhaps because it's not yet finalised a price with RIM. Either way, you'll have to wait until shortly before the launch.

It's not the only network offering the smartphone, but it is the first one to come forward with a date. A date that's four months after it first launched, but well worth the wait for BlackBerry fans. The Bold Touch is a premium and relatively skinny device, with a brushed stainless steel frame and a high gloss glass-weave backplate. Features include a Liquid Graphics touch-screen, built-in support for NFC (Near Field Communications), a five-megapixel camera with 720p HD video recording, GPS, Wi-Fi, high-speed 3G, Bluetooth 2.1, 8GB on-board memory, a microSD card slot to boost up to 32GB and BlackBerry OS 7.

Yes, a new OS, this one with enhanced looks, improved browsing, voice-activated universal handset search plus support for HTML5 and JavaScript when browsing the web. There's also a new feature called BlackBerry Balance, which allows you to split business and personal email accounts.

All of that from September and for what is likely to be a premium price.
