IM for Nokia launches

Good news for instant messaging junkies – IM for Nokia has launched, bringing most of the main platforms under one 'roof' for free. Free if you have a data plan, that is.

IM for Nokia is an instant messenger program that allows you to send messages to anybody else who has the same app installed, as well as one or all of your Ovi Mail account, Google Talk, Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger and MySpace IM. No BBM, as you might expect, and we wouldn't advise holding your breath for Apple iMessage compatibility either. But there's a good selection there, enough to make it a useful tool, that's for sure.

You can download it from the Ovi Store (or find it on future Nokia phones pre-installed). Once you've done that, log in and you are away. Well, sort of. If you want to use one of the other compatible services, you'll need to log into those too. After that, just add friends to get talking.

Like all mesaaging services, it's just a matter of typing away in the text box, adding the appropriate smiley to any witty one-liners you drop. Once you've finished, you can 'hide' the app, keeping it running in the background should anyone want to contact you.

IM for Nokia is available full-featured for the Nokia X6, Nokia 5230, Nokia N8 and Nokia E7. It’s also available for Series 40 phones, too.
