HP TouchPad available from mid-July

Since HP bought Palm, we've seen little emerge from the takeover meant to revive Palm's sadly underrated webOS software. We loved the Palm Pre - a little-smartphone-that-should've-been if there ever was one – so we're particularly happy to hear that the first webOS tablet has been confirmed for a UK launch in mid-July.

The 9.7-inch HP TouchPad will land in its Wi-Fi-only incarnations at £399 for the 16GB version and £479 for the 32GB version. That price point puts it toe to toe with the Wi-Fi-only iPad 2 – a necessary move if it's to get a look-in in what's currently a dominated market.

You'll be able to get yours direct from HP or from 'selected retailers and commercial resellers' from mid-July, or place preorders at the HP site from 19 June.
