APP WATCH: Opera 6 for iPhone and iPad

If you want a faster, less data-heavy browsing experience for your Apple device, you are in luck – Opera 6 has just launched for both the iPhone and iPad. Best of all? It's a free download.

According to Opera, it will 'complement the default iPad and iPhone browser', with 90% compression of data traffic for speed and cost savings, which might be useful when you are out and about. Especially if that outdoor network is a little sluggish.

On the iPhone 4, Opera 6 adapts to the high resolution and changes the user interface to accommodate the screen size. If you have it on the iPad, the browser will switch to a 'more convenient view' for tablet handling.

Features on the new version include much faster and smoother panning and zooming which lets the you get all the way into the details of every page in one smooth motion. There are also share buttons to pass around pages on My Opera, Facebook and Twitter, plus some redesigned Opera menus.

'I would compare it to walking onto the stage and hearing the roar of the crowd,' said Opera’s CEO Lars Boilesen about the browser being on the App Store. 'We have put in a lot of rehearsal and clever thought behind the new experience. The Opera Mini browser has always kicked up the tempo when downloading pages; now the browsing flows along to a smooth, easy beat.'

If that hard sell does it for you, the browser is on the App Store waiting for you right now.
