Rumours have been floating around since last year, but so far, no detail has emerged about the proposed Amazon tablet. However, with its Appstore already open, it would seem a logical step for the company. If the latest rumour is to be believed, the first device could land before the year is out.According to Engadget, Silicon Valley analyst Tim Bajarin claims to have some inside information from sources in Taipei. On the basis of that, a 10-inch LCD tablet will launch 'before the holidays', which is another way of saying ahead of the run-up to Christmas. That's obviously in the US. Amazon's record of launching things in the UK on a par with the US isn't great. We seemed to wait a lifetime for the Kindle and we've still not seen the launch of that Appstore. But with the market still fairly open for tablets, it might get more of a push on with this.As well as the 10-inch tablet, the same analyst also hears word of a seven-inch device, but that's more likely to launch in 2012, so we'll concentrate on big brother for now. As well as being an Android device (presumably the version of the OS will be confirmed nearer the time), it also plans to use Nvidia's new quad-core Tegra processor. Sadly, there will not be a switchable 'black and white E Ink-like display and a colour LCD hybrid screen as planned, essentially because the technology isn't there right now. Might be good for version 2 though.Other details and shaky hands-on photos will almost certainly emerge in the coming months. As we said, you might want to think twice about adding the Amazon tablet to your Christmas list. A UK launch will almost certainly be deep into 2012.
