We have known for some that the HTC Flyer tablet will be hitting UK shelves on 9 May. But the price now being quoted seems to have dropped quite considerably, thanks to the arrival of a new version. Some weeks back, when the date was confirmed, the price being quoted was £599.99 from both high street (Carphone Warehouse) and online retailers like Clove. That price is likely to stand, as the price quoted was for the Wi-Fi/3G version of the Flyer. However, eXpansys now has the 16GB Wi-Fi only version of the Flyer up for pre-order and ready to deliver later this week. According to Pocket Lint, the price of that is a far more palatable £479.99. That's still more than the equivalent model of iPad 2 by around £80, but it is at least a more affordable price that originally quoted. Is it worth it? That depends on whether you want to go Android or iOS. If it's the former, the Flyer certainly looks like an impressive piece of kit and in our hands-on, it was described as a 'powerful tablet that - perhaps more importantly - is incredibly easy to use out of the box.' It's also got a pretty impressive specification. That includes a 1.5GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, up to 32GB of storage, a five-megapixel camera for snaps, a 1.3-megapixel camera for video calling and all the connectivity you would expect of a cutting-edge mobile device. Android Gingerbread is the OS, assisted by HTC's Sense interface. If that appeals, see your retailer of choice or sit tight for the contract deals that should follow.
