The old Daily Telegraph app was free, but following the trend for paid news apps, the new 'premium' Daily Telegraph for iPad comes at a price.Actually, that's not entirely true. The app itself is free, but without the news, it's a pretty hollow thing. According to Pocket Lint, if you want the news, you'll be asked to pay a hefty £1.19 for a daily edition or more reasonable £9.99 for a monthly rolling subscription. However, if you are a print subscriber, it's absolutely free. Although why you need it if you are getting the print version is anyone's guess. Easy to carry or read in bed we suppose. The app offers that premium content, including including video, picture galleries, interactive crossword puzzles (two per day apparently), the Matt cartoon, an archive feature, a pinch-and-zoom facility that changes the text size within articles. and rather cleverly, a night mode designed for reading in low light. It all points towards the Telegraph website heading behind a Times-style paywall, although that's still not been decided. According to Edward Roussel, digital editor of TMG: 'We haven’t formed a view. We have not made a decision. We are not for or against it. We are continuing to look at it.'In the meantime, the new app is available right now.
