LG Optimus Big goes official

It leaked online last month, but now the LG Optimus Big has officially launched. At least, it has in Korea.

According to Unwired View, the phone has been launched under the name LG LU6800 and as yet, there are no details of a launch outside Korea. But we wouldn't be surprised if it did appear on these shores, although, size apart, it doesn't offer much more than other LG Android smartphones currently doing the rounds here.

For your money, you get an Android 2.2 smartphone, although that's likely to be upgraded to Android 2.3 Gingerbread fairly sharpish. Other features include that 'big' 4.3 inch WVGA NOVA display, a dual-core 1GHz processor, a five-megapixel auto-focus camera and Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth connectivity.

That NOVA screen is interesting, said to be more than twice as bright as a Super AMOLED display, with purer whites, deeper blacks and with 50 per cent less power consumption than traditional LCD screens. It's a selling point, but whether that's enough of a selling point to get a UK launch isn't clear. We'll get it confirmed in the next few weeks, all being well.
