OK, there's no price or release date as yet, but queues of retailers are forming in the UK ahead of the launch of the BlackBerry PlayBook. Indeed, you can pre-register right now if you happen to be really keen.According to Crave, both Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4u will take your details now ahead of launch, presumably meaning you'll be the first to know of the price and date. They aren't the only sellers, Currys, PC World and Best Buy will also be selling the PlayBook when it lands. Will that competition mean some competition on price? Probably not, though we can hope. The seven-inch tablet actually went on sale in the US yesterday, complete with a 1GHz processor and a new OS developed by QNX for the tablet. That latter point seems to have been an issue at launch, with a limited number of apps being available from the off. That should soon be dealt with, not least because Android apps will soon be able to run on the PlayBook. If you want a US price comparison as a guide, the 16, 32 and 64GB versions of the PlayBook are priced respectively at $499, $599 and $699, which is £306, £368 and £429 at current exchange rates. Throw in some VAT at 20% and we're unlikely to see much price cutting against the market leader, the iPad. However, according to Crave, the Wi-Fi-only models might be slightly cheaper than the iPad – £367, £441 and £515, compared to £399, £479 and £559.All speculation though, the official pricing and launch dates should be along soon enough.
