APP WATCH: Firefox 4 for Android

There are some things that iPhone users can never have. Like a fully-functioning Firefox browser in their pockets. That envy might just have deepened a little with the arrival of Firefox 4 for Android.

Essentially, this is a mobile version of the recently-updated desktop browser. So if you like that, it's a no-brainer. Indeed, with Firefox Sync built-in, you can match the two versions up easily, with secure access to your browsing history, bookmarks, open tabs, form data and passwords across computers and mobile devices.

Not only that, the new Firefox mobile browser is three times faster than the standard Android browser, with major enhancements to the JavaScript engine making everything from page load speed to graphics to overall performance a whole lot whizzier. That alone is worth the time it takes you to download.

Still not convinced? Well, there's also all those Firefox favourites like tabbed browsing, one-touch bookmarks and add-ons to cut back on your typing, the latter also offering numerous ways to customise your browser too. You can add to that the option to save to PDF, page sharing, a customised search engine list (should you want to add one), location-aware browsing, device orientation, an accelerometer and desktop notifications.

Gary Kovacs, CEO of Mozilla had this to say about Firefox 4 for Mobile: 'The launch of Firefox 4 for Mobile is a major step toward making the Web accessible and customisable for all users wherever they go. As we live more of our lives online, Firefox has become a trusted environment, providing a modern, intuitive and secure experience across desktop and mobile devices.'

Check out the video at the Mozilla Blog for all of that in visual form or just go and grab it from the Android Market now for free.
