It was launched at the recent MWC event, with talk of a spring / early summer shelf date in the UK. Well, it looks like the Samsung Galaxy S 2 will be here a little sooner than that. At least, it will if you are willing to go sim-free.Two retailers have come forward with prices and dates for the Android 2.3 Gingerbread smartphone. Play.com was first out of the traps, claiming it will have stock from the 31st March, selling its handsets for £600 sim-free, a discount of £50 on the full price, it would seem. That's for the 16GB model incidentally. That was soon followed by online retailer Clove, which offered both the 16GB and 32GB models, priced at at £612 (£510 plus VAT) and £708 (£590 plus VAT) respectively. The launch date there is mid-to-late March, so you can see a pattern forming. What about the networks? Well, they were falling over themselves to say they were stocking it, but so far, we're lacking any concrete contract details. If stock is available from the end of March, we can assume the networks will have some too. So if Android is your thing and you've got a contract up for renewal, you might want to hold fire a little longer. Why? Well, because the Samsung Galaxy S 2 looks to be a very tasty piece of kit. Thinner than the iPhone, the all-new Galaxy offers up a 4.27-inch 800 x 480 Super AMOLED Plus display, a fully-featured 8-megapixel primary camera that's capable of shooting video in 1080p HD, a 2-megapixel camera for video calling, a dual-core 1GHz Samsung chip, 1GB of RAM, high-speed 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0+HS connectivity, Wi-Fi Direct to connect to wireless-enabled PCs and printers, plus NFC for those contactless payments.Look out for a full review soon and look out for the handset on the shelves in just a matter of weeks.
