It's not exactly set in stone, but according to All Things Digital, 'several sources' have confirmed that March 2nd will see the launch of the much-anticipated iPad 2 from Apple. It wouldn't be a surprise. An annual refresh is overdue and as we mentioned yesterday, retailers are already dropping the price of the original model. According to those same sources, that date next Wednesday is for an event in San Francisco, likely to be the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. If that's the case, invites are almost certainly in the post. Will Steve Jobs be there? Officially, that's likely to be a 'no'. But as the same website points out, he has been sighted all around Silicon Valley at various places and was sat next to President Barack Obama at a high-profile meet-the-tech-moguls dinner last week. So he's not exactly confined to his bed.The new model is widely-predicted to be an evolution of the existing model, but thinner than its predecessor and featuring an improved display, as well as front-facing camera and Facetime video chat support. There are also reports of it being powered by one of Qualcomm’s multimode chips. All should be made clear next week, with a shelf date likely to be April / May for the UK.
