Sony Ericsson Xperia Play primed for April

OK, so we told you yesterday that the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play was officially announced on Facebook and that the official company launch was this Sunday at the opening of the MWC event in Barcelona. What else do you want to know? Of course, where do you get a PlayStation Phone from? We know that now as well.

The networks have started showing their collective hands on that front, with April being the date talked about for a shelf date. No particular day as yet, but if you are winding down a contract, it's probably near enough to work with.

The networks so far confirming availability of the phone are Orange, T-Mobile, O2 and Vodafone. So pretty much everyone except Three, which gives you an idea of just how much importance is being put on this Android 2.3 gaming phone. Orange confirmed that date on Twitter, while O2 simply confirmed it was selling it on the same social network.

Sadly, none of these networks are giving away details of price or contract. But we expect it to be in the region of the networks' current high-end smartphone rates right now. It's certainly not going to be a budget device. If you want to know more about the specification of the handset, check out our previous offering on that front.
