BlackBerry gets its own back-up service

Calling all BlackBerry users!? A new service from Funambol will now allow you to sync all manner of content wirelessly with your PC and Outlook. Using a mobile cloud, any contacts, calendars, tasks, notes and pictures you have stored on your BlackBerry device can be backed up and retrieved from a remote computer. As well as synching with your PC, photos you take with your BlackBerry can be synced with other cloud services such as Facebook, Flickr and Picasa, while all your emails and appointments can be synced with Outlook without the need for Exchange. The 'time machine' data backup feature may also prove useful should you accidentally delete some important files.

Of course we've seen similar services from the likes of MobileMe for the iPhone and Google for Android, but Funambol's cloud service is the first for BlackBerry users. It's all set up to support the BlackBerry PlayBook when it arrives on these shores, but in the meantime BlackBerry Torch, Bold, Curve and Pearl users can get going with a Beta version available from the BlackBerry App World or http://www.mm4bb.com. Funambol is offering enough free cloud storage to suit the average user, though a premium service with more storage space will also become available.
