With the PlayStation Phone due to launch officially very soon, we half-hoped the newly-announced Official PlayStation app would spread the gaming love across several other handsets. Sadly, the new app is just a first, tentative step for the PlayStation on mobile platforms. But let's not talk it down, it is a first step and according to the PlayStation's official blog, 'there are tons more features we are planning to bring to this app in the next few months'. Which does increase the excitement just a little bit. Anyway, enough of the far future, what of the near future?Well, in version 1.0 you’ll be able to check out your PlayStation Network trophies and keep up to date with your friends’ games and online status, as well as being able to check out the latest games, news and hardware for your PlayStation 3, PSP and PlayStation 2. There are also announcements from the European PlayStation.Blog and interaction with Facebook, Twitter or email.Like we said, a first step rather than anything groundbreaking. The UK will be one of the first places to get the app, which will be available to download soon for iPhone and iPod Touch with OS 4 and above, and most Android compatible handsets with a minimum of OS 1.6. It's free, as you might have guessed.
