It was launched back in June, but the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 has very much been behind in terms of its operating system. Indeed, it's still running the positively ancient Android 1.6 from launch, missing out on the update to 2.1 that the X10 series has recently enjoyed. Well, X8 users, feel left out no more.According to Crave, the Android handset will soon get an update, shifting things to Android 2.1. Ok, it's not the Flash-laden goodness of an Android 2.2 update, but Xperia phones always seem to be lagging behind on these things, primarily because of the difficulty of working with both the Android OS and the Xperia interface. With that in mind, don't expect a 2.2 upgrade anytime soon. But you can at least enjoy some new features soon, including support for multiple accounts on Google or Exchange email, as well as an improved browser, camera app and on-screen keyboard. There are also specific Sony Ericsson improvements include HD 720p video recording and DLNA connectivity. Getting the update might well take a little time. Unlocked phones will be ahead of the queue, with networks taking a while longer, with Sony Ericsson being forced to create versions for each network. In other words, keep on checking for updates, one day it will just be there, brightening up a particularly dull work day.
