Dell Streak to get Android 2.2

But Froyo rollout could take weeks to cover all phones
Good news if you were tempted into buying a Dell Streak - it's getting an update to Android 2.2, also known as Froyo.
We like the Dell Streak, giving it a four-star rating on review. But the downside was an initial launch with Android 1.6. O2 updated this to Android 2.1 over the summer, but with so many devices offering 2.2 - and with that operating system likely to be eclipsed in the coming weeks - Dell has decided to push on with a 2.2 update across the board.
According to PC Pro, the mini tablet will get an over-the-air (OTA) update that rolls out from this week for unlocked devices, with the entire rollout probably taking weeks rather than days.
'These units will be upgraded first because they do not have to go through the carrier approval process,' Dell said in a blog post. 'Unlocked units are generally popular outside the United States and can be identified by the fact they are able to be used with a SIM card from any carrier network.'
Devices locked to a specific operator will apparently be updated in December, although O2, the Streak's provider in the UK, has yet to comment on the update programme.
