APP WATCH: BBC iPlayer hits BlackBerry

If you fancy giving your thumbs a break from that all that email checking on your BlackBerry, how about watching a bit of TV? You can with the launch of the BBC iPlayer application for BlackBerry smartphones.

It's free to download, but obviously not free to use when you take into account all that data. You might want to keep an eye on that. But let's look at the positives - you can watch and listen to live BBC TV and radio shows, as well as catch up on BBC programmes from the last seven days. That's got to be a good thing.

You'll need Wi-Fi ideally, although the BBC claims 'the service is also supported by 3 UK and contract on Vodafone', should you have a generous data contract. Sadly, it's not supported by all BlackBerry phones. Right now, it's just the BlackBerry Storm 2, BlackBerry Bold 9700 and BlackBerry Torch 9800 smartphones. Yes, they give with one hand and take away with the other. But if you have got one of those, TV is in your pocket right now. Just don't let the boss know.
