Three offers Facebook for free in UK

Facebook for free? That's now a reality, thanks to the Three network.

Customers of that network can access a basic version of Facebook via 0.facebook.com. No graphics, just a list of status updates according to TechRadar. But at no cost, we can't complain.

It's a UK first from Three, which said: 'At Three, we want to make the mobile internet easy and affordable for everyone. We are delighted to work with Facebook to bring one of the most visited mobile websites to our customers for free. We have the only 100% 3G network in the UK so that we can provide our customers with the very best experience of the mobile internet'.

Is it a pre-cursor to something else? Possibly. INQ has confirmed it is working on a Facebook phone (although it didn't use that name) and as Three is its network of choice, there's a strong possibility that a dedicated Facebook phone with free access could happen next year.

All speculation though. In the meantime, if you happen to be with Three, get in there and take advantage while it lasts.
