Orange San Francisco handset launches

Orange has achieved something impressive - it has produced an Android smartphone even cheaper than Alacatel with the Orange San Francisco, Only by 95 pence though.

It is worth a look if you happen to be thinking of taking up Android and don't want to spend a fortune to find out it's not right for you. The first in a new range of budget Androids from Orange, £99 is the price, plus the cost of Orange’s pay as you go Dolphin tariff. Just don't expect cutting edge when it comes to the inner workings.

Saying that, it's not a bad specification, with the handset offering Android 2.1 for the OS, a 3-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G connectivity, plus that staple of a budget phone, an FM radio. Just 150MB of on-board storage, but with a microSD slot, you can bump that up to 32GB easily enough.

The Orange San Francisco is available online and from Orange sellers from this week.
