Samsung Galaxy Tab for £799?

We got the official launch a couple of weeks back, with some networks laying claim to it almost immediately. But what if you want it sim-free? Well, it looks like the Samsung Galaxy Tab doesn't come cheap.

According to TechRadar, the price to pay is £799. Indeed, that's what the retailer is charging right now. That even out-prices Apple's iPad, which sells for up to £699 and is an altogether larger device. Some feat.

It's not the only seller in town sim-free, others places (like Clove) are listing the Galaxy Tab for £615 price point, nearer the £600 price point previously mentioned by the company, but still hefty for what you get. That being a 1GHz processor, 7-inch LCD screen, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi, a front-facing camera for video calls and Android 2.2 for the operating system. A big smartphone essentially.

OK, it is likely to be heavily discounted by the networks when it does land, but you would expect Samsung to be really going for Apple with this. If that price isn't right, Samsung could be fighting a losing battle.
