APP WATCH: Adidas MiCoach lands for iPhone and BlackBerry

Not content to slug it out in the sportswear field, Adidas and Nike are now trading blows on the app market with the launch of the Adidas MiCoach app, a serious rival for Nike+.

Initially available for the iPhone and BlackBerry, MiCoach is a free app that hooks up to your GPS to track your training progress, throwing in some voice coaching to get you pushing for that extra 10 per cent.

According to TechRadar, you can pick specific conditioning programmes for your preferred sport, including football, tennis, running and basketball, with six training plans for each sport.

Once you've chosen that, you can go online to create personalised conditioning programmes and set goals based on your current fitness level at MiCoach.com. Oh yes, should you need more motivation as you train, Adidas has even thrown in some downloadable voices of sports stars to keep you moving. It also gives you tips on shoe wear and tear. After all, the app is made by a company famed for its sportswear.
