Samsung Galaxy Tape on the shelves in September?

It's been rumoured for some weeks now and has even undergone a name change before making its official bow. But the Samsung tablet known currently as the Galaxy Tape, but previously known as the Galaxy Tab is now set for an August launch.

According to the Daily Telegraph, a launch event is planned for August 11th, giving the world a first glance at the wannabe iPad killer, but certainly the first real competition for Apple's device. If all goes to plan, Samsung plans to have the Tape or Tab on the shelves of electrical retailers by the end of September, poised perfectly for the Christmas market.

The device is said to take much of its design features from the recently-launched Galaxy S Android smartphone, with leaks indicating that it will be running Android 2.2 at launch and offering a 7-inch super AMOLED display, 16GB of storage (expandable to 32GB), a fast 1.2GHz A8 processor for speedy web browsing, Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity and Samsung's TouchWiz UI.

Every tech company worthy of the name is currently working on a tablet, but getting there first with an Android tablet, which looks to the platform of choice for many, is certain a feather in Samsung's cap. if the price is right, Samsung could be onto a pre-Christmas winner. We'll keep you posted.
