First the good news - Orange has finally come clean about an Android update for the HTC Hero. The bad news? It's not to Android 2.2.But at least one update, Android 2.1, is coming. According to a press statement from HTC and Orange: 'We apologise for the delay in Orange Hero customers receiving their Éclair update. Testing the update across European markets took longer than anticipated. However, we hope to receive final approval by the end of the week and Orange handsets should start updating from next week'.So good news one the one hand, but it does leave a question mark over just when the phone will get a 2.2 update. If it has taken the company and network this long to drag the phone to 2.1, you wonder whether the next step up will make it before the end of the year.Which of course, is when Android 3.0 is due. We wouldn't recommend holding your collective breath for that.
