Acer Stream smartphone set for August launch

We featured the launch back in May, but now the Acer Stream smartphone is ready to hit the UK.

It's certainly a contender, a high-end handset with Android 2.1 at launch. 2.2 would have been nice, but you can't have everything - you'll have to make do with a tasty specification instead.

That includes a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 512MB of RAM and a 3.7-inch AMOLED touchscreen, the latter with a contrast ratio of 2000:1. Connectivity is high-speed HSDPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS and a 5-megapixel camera takes care of the stills, throwing in 720p HD video recording too. There's also a HDMI slot so you can watch those mini movies on your HD-ready TV.

The Stream also packs in 2GB of internal memory, a slot for your microSD card and pre-installed/easy access clients for the likes of Facebook and Twitter plus Acer's own Spinlets free music streaming service, nemo Player for enhanced multimedia content and urFooz to create a virtual 'look-a-like'.

All of that, sim-free, for £399 from 9th August, exclusively (for now) from Expansys.
