When it comes to helpful apps, Google Open Spot for Android has made a dash straight to the top of the pile. But its overall success will depend on how public spirited its users are.Yes, this is very much a community app, one that should help you find a parking space in whatever town you find yourself in. Just as long as there are plenty of car driving Android users in that town.Using Google Maps and GPS, it allows you to mark a parking space you are currently vacating. When you do that, a red dot will appear on the map contained within the app. That alerts fellow Adroid drivers of that space, who can get in ahead of owners of other smartphones. When they leave, they do the same and...well, you get the idea. The downside? Simple - we're all in a hurry to find a space, but how many of us have the time, prior to setting off, to enter the data of that space. Google's answer to this is to use 'Karma Points' so you get an ongoing feeling of wellbeing the more you mark the space. Is it enough? Only time will tell. You can do your bit by downloading the app now, just as long as your Android OS is 2.0 or higher.
