HP confirms webOS-based tablet

We did hint it might happen a while back, but now HP has confirme plans to make use of Palm's webOS in future tablets and netbook devices. Well, if you're going to pay an estimated $1.2 billion for a company, you don't just do it for the good of your health.

According to FierceCIO, the sale has now been completed, with the HP stating that 'Palm will be responsible for webOS software development and webOS-based hardware products, from a robust smartphone roadmap to future slate PCs and netbooks.'

So more smartphones like the recently-launched Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus, but more interestingly, something to take on the iPad and what's expected to be a glut of Android-based tablets as we enter 2011 from the likes of Samsung and LG.

HP is no stranger to tablets - it did showcase an impressive Windows-based Slate tablet at CES earlier this year, but with its own operating system in place, that particular device is unlikely to make it to market. But we might just see something equally impressive at the next CES in January 2011.
