Alcatel goes all hybrid with the One Touch XTRA

Having recently launched their very first touch-screen phone, followed by their first QWERTY phone, Alcatel has now merged the two. The manufacturer has unveiled the Alcatel One Touch XTRA, which is another first for them in that it has dual functionality. Hold the phone in a vertical position and you'll be able to bang out texts, make calls and surf the internet with the fully operational resistive touch-screen. However, slide the phone open and the display will automatically be switched into landscape with the QWERTY keyboard the main means of controlling the device.

Ok so there's nothing revolutionary with the Alcatel One Touch XTRA, but it's another indication that they are prepared to up the ante from the bog standard clamshell and candybar handsets we were so used to them churning out. What's more Alcatel has remained true to their remit of producing affordable handsets, with the Alcatel One Touch XTRA available for just £49.99 on an Orange Pay As You Go contract from Orange UK stores and online at
