The Samsung Omnia II retains its position as a high profile mobile phone for the company. However, because of Microsoft’s strict stipulations regarding the implementation of its new operating system, Windows Phone 7, the Omnia II will not be able to be upgraded to that OS. Owners of the phone will still see an OS upgrade, however, to Windows Mobile 6.5.3.
The confirmation of the enhancement arrived via Samsung Sweden, which also decreed that the new OS upgrade would be available during the second half of May. Reportedly, the new OS will improve the touchscreen response of the phone as well as improving many visual aspects of the handset via an upgraded user interface.
For those Omnia II mobile phones that are released after the update is launched, Windows Mobile 6.5.3 will be pre-installed.
The Omnia II features a 3.7-inch AMOLED screen, a 5-megapixel camera, HSDPA, Wi-Fi and A-GPS.
