In amongst the recent Wave phone activity and news of the new S3370, Samsung has announced that it is now in the position to produce the world’s first 20 nanometer (nm) specification NAND flash chips that will sit within SD memory cards and embedded memory installations.
Mr. Soo-In Cho, president, Memory Division, Samsung Electronics, said "The new 20nm-class NAND is not only a significant step forward in process design, but we have incorporated advanced technologies into it to enable substantial performance innovation."
In fact, the new cards will be around 30% faster than the 30nm competition when writing to the card itself. The new technology holds a speed class rating of 10 – which means that it can shift 20MB/s when reading and 10MB/s when writing.Samsung has reported that it is handing over card samples of its new design to its own memory chip customers which should mean that we consumers should be able to grab the new cards later this year.
