Riddle us this: what's the difference between an HTC Hero and HTC Legend? By mid-April, not a whole lot, as the latest version of Android becomes available for the Hero.
According to Know Your Mobile, HTC's first superstar Android phone will get a free upgrade to Android 2.1, which will be rolled out by UK operators from April 16. T-Mobile and Orange are the first to release the software on the 16th, while users of 3 will have to wait till April 22.
Some of the cool new effects Hero owners can expect on Android 2.1 are 'live' wallpapers that shift as you navigate the phone, a 3D photo gallery, voice-to-text in all text fields, and a brand-new apps launcher. And yes, we will have multi-touch. As with the HTC Legend, you'll be able to pinch and see all seven homescreens at once, for easier navigation.
The Legend, will be available just a bit earlier and also running on Android 2.1. We just rated the Legend a full five stars, but many might be turned off by the fact that you can only get it on a Vodafone contract, especially as a 2.1-powered Hero is both cheaper, and available on three networks.
