Mobile World Congress saw Vodafone award a budding application developer a €1,000 cash prize as well as a Samsung H1 handset for winning the 'Vodafone 360 Developer Conference App Star Auditions'. 'Smartrunner' is a fitness app that keeps you informed of speed, distance and calories burnt when exercising. €1,000 is certainly better than a kick in the teeth. However, it does pale in significance when discussing the type of prizes on offer with Voda's larger-scale App factor. The Vodafone App Star competition will reward the creators of the best apps from eight different countries €25,000 each, with the second and third best entries receiving €15,000 and €10,000 respectively.
Once the winning entry from the eight countries have been decided (UK, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal or Spain) they will then go head to head in a bid to win a whopping €75,000. The second place app will also receive a non-too shabby €25,000, with the results being decided by the public.
So if you're a budding app developer find out how to enter at www.jil.org/vodafone/appstar, but hurry. The Vodafone App Star competition closes on 31 March.
