Alcatel has finally decided to enter the fray and announce the forthcoming launch of a new mobile phone based on the Android operating system. To be known as the Alcatel OT-980, the new design resembles Palm's mobile, the Pre.
The FrAndroid website managed to get its hands on a selection of images of the new phone. It's a prototype though, so there may be a few changes before the official launch at the MWC 2010 show in Barcelona, this month.
To be offered at an affordable price - although we don't know exactly what that price may be - the new design, based upon a 600MHz CPU, will feature a QVGA resistive display and Android 1.6, according to the Intomobile website. Fast data transfers will be possible via 3G and it also has Wi-Fi functionality. Other features will include GPS, an accelerometer, a two-megapixel camera, a 3.5mm headphone port and a microSD slot.
