The Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU has been one of the more higher profile chips in the mobile market over the past year, appearing in the Google Nexus One and HTC HD2. The fact that it has reached the magic 1GHz speed boundary has had a large part in the media interest. Now, Qualcomm has announced that it will be launching two new Snapdragon CPUs this year which should see them placed in new mobiles before the year's end.
To be known as the Snapdragon 8X50A, the first of those chips will be a 45nm version of the current Snapdragon and will reach speeds of 1.3 GHz, according to the Slashgear website.
The second design, however, has many hearts a-flutter. Called the 8X72, the second design release will reach speeds of 1.5GHz but will be a dual core design that reflects the desktop-like performance of the chip. Expect to see high-end features associated with it such as 1080p HD resolution.
