Motorola to launch Android app store

Of course, the very best mobile manufacturers wouldn't be seen dead in the mobile market without an app store...darling. Which is obviously why Motorola has succumbed to peer pressure and decided to join the likes of Apple and BlackBerry and launch its very own app store – but with Android content. Of course, we all know that everyone in Motorola is as a deaf as a post, so the name had to be in capital letters: hence the SHOP4APPS moniker.

According to the Android and Me website, the new facility will be available to both phone and desktop computer users, although you will only be able to download apps directly to your handset.

Features will include MyLocker, to access your download history plus automatic notifications for app updates and a re-download/transfer apps option.

Expect the service to launch in the Americas first (North and South), with other territories to follow later.
