Apparently the iPhone is now Everyman's phone. Tesco Mobile is the latest operator to grab the iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS, after Orange recently started offering it, and Vodafone announced a deal to commence in January. No word on the price plans yet, but Tesco Mobile has set up a pre-registration page.
The operator is actually an MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) that runs on O2, so the 3G coverage would be as comprehensive (or not) as it is on O2. But unlike the big players, Tesco Mobile has so far focused on minutes and texts bundles, not data, so it'll be interesting to see what it comes up with for the iPhone. Particularly as we've so far seen no knockdown in prices from Voda and Orange - but with the arrival of a low-end competitor known for highly competitive prices, is that likely to change?
The iPhone will be available in Tesco Phone Shops and online through Tesco Direct in the UK.
