Next week sees the launch of a new Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO). From 25 November giffgaff will go live using O2's network. As part of a marketing ploy potential customers are being asked to spread the word. In return they could receive free UK mobile calls, texts and mobile internet for a whole year. Customers have at their disposal a series of marketing tools known as 'Tool Hire' that enables promotion through a variety of ways. One is to upload themselves on video to YouTube in order to become a V.I.G member (Very Important Giffgaffer). As well as free mobile use the five best videos will each receive £5,000 cash.
Price plans for gifgaff are yet to be unveiled, but all customers will be able to enjoy free mobile internet from launch for six months while the product is in Beta phase, with a daily use of up to 100MB per day. In return giffgaff hopes to gage an idea from their customers of how they want to see the service develop.
