Already a keen advocator of social networking service Twitter, Vodafone has improved its service to enable its customers to re-tweet (RT) their favourite messages via a text message. Customers can already send and receive SMS Twitter updates by texting 86444, but now by texting the same number, users can send "RT twitter username" which will re-tweet the last post made by that user on the customers own Twitter page.
Each re-tweet text message will be charged at a standard network rate, or if the customer has an SMS bundle it will be taken from their accordingly. Once sent, customers will receive a free SMS notification confirming that their re-tweet has been posted to all their followers. As part of Vodafone's association with Twitter, customers will continue to receive SMS updates from Twitter free of charge.
This is the second announcement from an operator regarding Twitter this week. Orange has just become the first UK operator to allow its customers to Tweet photos from their phone via MMS.
