Motorola, readying over 20 smartphones for release next year in addition to its new DEXT handset, has announced that it is releasing the Milestone mobile phone into Europe, complete with a multi-touch interface and based upon the latest version of Android, version 2.0. The new design has already appeared in the American market but under a different moniker - the Droid.
To be initially released into Germany and Italy, with other territories - such as the UK - to follow, the new Milestone handset features multi-touch support including gesture, pinch & zoom and more. This is a 'big deal' for the European version of the phone because, on the US version, this feature is disabled. The European version doesn't include free turn-by-turn navigation, however, principally because the feature has yet to be formally introduced in Europe.
Featuring a 3.7in, WVGA resolution, packing in 480 x 854 pixels and a 16:9 widescreen format, the Milstone also includes a 5-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi and GPS.
