O2 customers can now buy tracks through Shazam

From today customers of O2 will be able to enjoy an added benefit of music recognition service Shazam. By dialling 2580 customers can hold their phone up to a piece of music and not only will Shazam identify the piece of music complete with the artist who plays it, but they will also be able to purchase that track direct from their mobile. This option will come in the form of a text message that has an embedded link enabling the consumer to immediately purchase the track.

To call 2580 you will be charged your standard operator rate (usually less than 12p), while a successful 'tag' (identification) will cost you 50p, including VAT. If the track cannot be identified then you will not be charged the 'tagging' cost. All tracks are purchased via Napster.com.
