Nokia has released a beta version of a new utility that will help visually impaired users access SMS messages. Called Nokia Braille Reader, the new app has been designed to work on touchscreen phones. In fact, the app is one of the more innovative and, at the same time, obvious implementations of the touchscreen interface. Featuring the Braille alphabet and leverages, the app responds to tactile feedback.
"The application was concepted together with actual users and researchers focusing on the topic, and we are now happy to show the first experimental version of the concept," said a member of the Nokia development team.
The app has been developed in collaboration with the Finnish Federation of the Visually Impaired and the Tampere University. Nokia Braille Reader is compatible only with Nokia's S60 5th Edition smartphones such as the: Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, Nokia N97, Nokia N97 Mini, Nokia 5530, Nokia 5230 and Nokia X6.
