Opera Mini 5 beta released

The new version of Opera for mobile use, Mini 5, has reached the beta stage and is now available for download - you can view a video on the browser, here.

The browser can be used with phones supporting touchscreen or non-touchscreen interfaces. New features for version 5 include Tabbed Browsing which has now become the norm for the majority of desktop-based web browsers. Used in this way, your mobile browsing will be able to visit several sites simulataneously. You just click on each tab to view each site. There's also a password manager in the new version. Opera Mini 5 will, says the company, securely save all passwords for e-mail, social networking sites, online banking and the like. You also get a Speed Dial option for Internet sites which will be presented as a table of contents from pre-selected Internet favourites.

There's also a special version of Opera Mini 5 for Blackberry users that has been designed specially for this platform. It features easy link opening commands and copy-and-paste functions. Click here to download the Blackberry version.
