Spotify launches on iPhone and Android

It’s here, it’s here! We’re as excited as anyone about awesome online music streamer Spotify (finally) making it to iPhones, iPod Touches and Android handsets. Subscribers to the premium, £9.99 a month ad-free service will be able to download a free app for their phones that ponies up all the regular Spotify desktop features like playlists that can be accessed from anywhere, music recommendations, and millions of tracks streamed and played instantly.

Playlists created on mobile will automatically sync with PC accounts and vice versa. As well, you won’t even need a data connection – just download a playlist and you’ll be able to play it whenever you can’t or don’t want to access a data connection, for example when you’re roaming abroad. Android users also have the bonus of being able to run Spotify in the background, whereas iPhone/iPod Touch users will have to skip out of the app to take calls, browse the web, etc.

No word on availability for other operating systems, but with the owner of 3 and INQ investing in Spotify, perhaps it's not too long before Spotify is on handsets and bundled with phone contracts.

Available from the iTunes Store and Android Marketplace now.
