HTC has decided to feature, full size, 3.5mm headphone sockets in almost all of its forthcoming phone designs.
HTC has produced a number of interesting, innovative and, thus, popular designs of late such as the Magic and the forthcoming Hero. However, those same users, especially if music is part of their interests, have often been left rather irritated by HTC's insistence of including a proprietory port or a 2.5mm jack within their specification. In fact, after launching around 30 smartphones, only three of them: the Touch HD, Advantage X7510 and the new Hero, includes a 3.5mm port at all, according to the Mobile Crunch website.
Now, HTC has decided to change that policy with the following caveat, "The vast majority of devices we launch after Hero will have a 3.5mm jack. Devices that we have already announced but that still come out after Hero will not necessarily be a part of this change."
We would also expect low-end devices to not include the port - but watch this space for more information on that.
