News From The East: Pantech's 3D phone interface

Newly released in South Korea, via SK Telecom, is the Pantech IM-R470S mobile phone, complete with a touchscreen. The phone is targeted at the South Korean market only. So what's the big deal for those residing in the UK and the rest of Europe? The interface, that's what. Pantech's TruEmotion user interface elevates the handset into a notable multimedia device with three-dimensional transition effects to compete with those offered by HTC and LG. It can also handle unconverted video files such as H.264, MPEG4, DivX, XviD.

The screen Pantech utilises is also multimedia friendly spanning 3.2in at a WVGA resolution packing in 800 x 480 pixels. The screen, made by Sharp, provides a useful 160 degree viewing angle, according to the Unwired website.

Whilst the IM-R470S is a South Korean handset-only, there are reports that the company is preaparing the TruEmotion interface for inclusion into a handset that will be released onto the world markets - including Europe. We'll keep an eye on future developments.
