Mobile Choice loves a toughphone and Sonim has proved itself to be the hardest nut around (click here to see us driving a double decker bus over the Sonim XP3 Enduro).
So we're pleased as punch to hear there is a new one on the block, and this time the manufacturer has teamed up with Land Rover to give it that extra cutting edge.
As well as being waterproof in depths of up to one meter for 30 minutes and 'drop proof' from up to two meters (this was also the case with the Sonim XP3 Enduro), the Land Rover S1 remains operational in temperatures as cold as -20° and as hot as 55°C and resistant to pressure of up to 400kg. It also boasts a marathon battery life of over 1,500 hours standby time and 1,080 minutes talktime - which is just humungous.
The Land Rover S1 is also the most equipped of Sonim's handsets in terms of features. As well as being the first of the range to sport a camera - two-megapixel - it also has built-in GPS, a torch, FM radio, Opera Mini and the ability to store 2GB memory cards. OK, so it might not be in the same league as various smartphones, but for a handset that has built its reputation on brawn, it's also got some brains too.
The Land Rover S1 is available this month for £299.99 from www.landroverphone.co.uk, Go Mobile stores or from www.gomobileuk.com.
