Sony Ericsson reveals app store via PlayNow

Sony Ericsson has joined the recently announced services offered by both Nokia and Microsoft by declaring that it will utilise its PlayNow arena to host a wide range of mobile apps, in addition to music, films, games, ringtones, wallpapers and themes. Initially, the new app store will be available to 13 countries with more becoming 'live' during the year.


The company stated that developers will be able to submit applications from July 1st at It's not live yet, however. Applications supporting both Symbian and Java apps will only be accepted, to begin with. When the company moves into the Windows Mobile and Android markets, then applications for these operating system will come online.


"We recognise that it needs to be simple and attractive for developers to reach consumers and that there need to be established content channels to push creative applications. Our new application submission process gives developers easy-to-use access to the Sony Ericsson PlayNow arena market place. " said Christopher David, Head of Developer and Partner Engagement at Sony Ericsson
