Adaptability and flexibility seem to be the 'in' thing at the moment with the recently announced advanced AMOLED and touchscreen technologies. Hewlett Packard, the major American electronics manufacturer, continues the trend by announcing a new technology called eSkins, a display technology that will allow you to personalise your mobile phone - although the technology will also be applicable to other mobile technologies such as laptops, digital cameras, netbooks and the like.
eSkins or Electronic Skins allows manufacturers to add a reflective colour film to your device that will feature a special ink to enable it to display unique images and characters. The included technology is, in fact, similar to colour printing.
"HP eSkins is in fact a dynamic digital surface (and not just a static display) that can be controlled to address up to 80 segments to give the perception of movement and eye-catching motion," a HP spokeswoman said.
The segmented display can be turned off and on to create visual effects.
"Consumer electronics manufacturers who integrate HP eSkins technology into future products can benefit from HP's expertise and innovation in ink technology and deliver print-like colour performance," said Ken Abbott, director, Emerging Technology, Technology Development Organization, Inkjet and Web Solutions Business, HP. "HP's eSkins technology allows our partners in the consumer electronics industry to introduce a dynamic, durable and reflective digital surface to enable new design freedom."
