Taking a leaf out of the Andoid App, Shop Savvy, Google has upgraded its Google Product Search for mobile service by adding a barcode scanning facility that, says the company, will be added to the Android operating system making the feature a standard.
When the software has been downloaded and installed and launched, operating the utility is pretty straight-forward. You just centre the red line over the barcode of your choice and then hold the phone for a moment. The barcode is read by the software and the results of your selection will be listed on the screen as part of the Google Product Search in the browser. You can learn more about the service, as a whole, here.
According to the Google Mobile Blog website, the developers stated that, "...barcode scanning works best for products like electronics, books, movies or video games but we're working on adding more barcodes for other items. Of course, if your scan does not return a result, you can always type in the product name just as before."
