Twitter’s search capabilities are to evolve, increasing its reach. Currently, if you initiate a Twitter search the Twitter text itself is searched. New developments now allow the links inserted within Twitter posts to be searched as well – indexing the final results, as Google currently does. The search engine will therefore be a more real-time service, not only searching Twitter texts but millions of websites, too.
The fact that the service will become more real-time will result in a faster search service than that currently offered by Google, mainly because Tweets are small and efficient to send and receive. A further future Twitter enhancement will be a reputation ranking system. According to The Telegraph website, when a user does a search on a trending topic (a subject with its own link in the Twitter.com sidebar), Twitter will examine the reputation of the person who added it and order the post based partly on that ranking.
